The song is about a friar who has overslept and is urged to wake up and ring the bell for the matins (morning prayer). As a kid, I imagined the sound of beautiful bells reflecting throughout an old European town glowing in the morning sun; however, now that I think about it, I notice that there is a contradiction between the lyrics and the actual situation. The point is that the bells are not ringing, because Brother John, who is supposed to ring them, is sleeping!
The keys are different for the karaoke version and the track with lyrics. Karaoke is in the key of F, the sung version is in E flat.
The rhyme is traditionally sung as a round.
Ms. Shiori, the singer of this song, is joined by her brothers Thomas and Daniel.
