What a beautiful decoration! We celebrate Children’s Day on May 5th in Japan by displaying Gogatsu-ningyou at home, hoping for a healthy growth of boys*.
Gogatsu ningyou consists of a Samurai armor, decorative helmet (kabuto, you may have seen it at the ceremony of Otani Shohei’s Home run) , ornamental swords and military regalia. These items symbolize strength and courage. (* This festival was started by the upper class of samurai in the 13th century. And we have another Girl’s Festival on March 3rd.)
